Clariant to design new propane dehydrogenation unit in China

Clariant has signed an agreement with Xuzhou HaiDing Chemical Technology to develop a new CATOFIN catalyst and propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit in Pizhou, Jiangsu Province, China.

Clariant will carry out the project in alliance with its technology partner CB&I. The agreement covers licence and engineering design of the custom-built plant.

The unit will be designed based on Clariant’s CATOFIN catalytic dehydrogenation technology to produce 600kt of propylene per annum.

Clariant’s technology utilises CATOFIN dehydrogenation catalyst that is used for producing olefins from light paraffin feedstocks, along with heat generating material (HGM) loaded with the catalyst to enhance selectivity and yield of CATOFIN units
